Ruth Murray: Brass Art

Figures Close-up
Shadows Cast
I am considering pieces that involve glass and transparent materials to convey the reflective patterns on my book designs. Brass Art used a range of clear materials such as cellophane and plastic alongside solid ones to create exaggerated effects with light

In Still Life No.1, tiny 3D figurines are arranged on a table which represent the artists themselves alongside museum specimens, realistically rendered using the latest digital techniques. A travelling light source casts a spinning procession of shadows around the walls and ceilings, with the varying opacities and forms producing unusual silhouettes and glimmers. It is interesting how small harmless objects are transformed into looming figures and monstrous forms through a simple process.

 Exhibtion:
Whitworth Art Gallery, Shadow Technology Art

Cara Lewis, Kristin Mojsiewicz and Anneke Pettican
