Lauren Bowker - Kelly Lowe

Lauren studied Textile for Fashion at Manchester School of Art and then continued on to study an MA at Royal College of Art in London.

Lauren often collaborated with other departments in her university life and had a vision of changing the world and wouldnt let anyone stand in her way, and through doing this for one of her projects she managed to create an ink that changed colour according to air pollution incorporating it into a jacket The project then went on to winning awards and was presented all around the world.

After producing this ink she used it to create collections, some of which made it onto the runway of paris fashion week which opened up many doors to her future. An interesting quote she used was, "If you want to make yourself noticed, you have to create something unusual so people will want to know more about it." Lauren made a piece from feathers, after collaborating with scientists, which changed from white to grey to purple and now represents her studio practice PHNX. She also produced a video showing this piece which has been showed to many desginers all over the world.

Lauren developed the idea of her work changing colour and came up with the idea of 'The Ultimate camoflauge' and has worked with the military on this idea as well as many other large designers such as Pancho and Krejberg and is currently working with Tim Burton.

During her time at RCA, she became friendly with 2 students who were studying science and being rebelious went against her courses wishes which worked to her advantage, giving her the oppurtunity to collaborate with airbus producing a vision for 2050 plane which went to the press.

I found Lauren very inspiring and facinating as she has acchieved so much in her life. During her lecture she gave out very clear messages in the way of if you think you have a good idea dont hestiate and go for it which is something I think is very inspiring and a drive for ambition.
