My final design changed from the colour going through the spectrum, to becoming more intense as it got closer to the end of the pathway.
If the design were to be in the new art school, it would be much longer and the colour range would be much wider and more exciting.
As part of my digital outcome, I decided to produce a short stop start animation and a visualisation. if given more time I would have liked to have improved my film through editing.
I changed my idea from producing a glass design to producing a way mark, using a pattern designed by myself. My pattern originated from a collage of images and drawings from my arrivals task, and altering the threshold on photoshop to create a flat design and enable me to add colour.
I intend to create a yellow brick road idea, flowing from the entrance to the cafe and I am going to use print to use this.
This books featured futuristic work using advanced technology. They
relate to Danusha’s idea of a screen with moving digital tiles since all
involve an interactive experience requiring the viewer to physically engage with
the work.

This pure white screen suspended from
the ceiling is about communicating information: The viewer can process and play with data in a
very hands-on and enjoyable way by selecting and moving it around the screen.
Infrared sensors behind the glass wall detect a person’s presence from 500mm
away before they even touch the glass. Its
smooth, curved design is modern and stylish for a public space.
Random International: You Fade to light
This interactive installation is
a myriad of mirrors that translate the spectator’s reflection into light. When individual
mirrors detect movement, they react by fading from a mirrored surface to pure
light. This explores and develops the traditional concept of a mirror, and
provokes dialogue between the viewer and their image.

Light”, 2009

Antivj: 3 Destruct
This large, semi-transparent cube
generates light and sound as a person walks through. The darkness and
atmospheric effects means the individual feels completely immersed in the
installation, losing their bearings and sense of space. Moving through an all-encompassing
piece of work to experience it fully would be suitable along a corridor or walkway
in the new building.
Hi everyone, as it is coming up to the last couple of weeks of our project, I have been searching high and low for some inspiration for this digital outcome. I have come across this French artist called Daniel Buren...
Daniel Buren has punctuated the last 40 years of art with unforgettable interventions, controversial critical texts, thought-provoking public art projects and engaging collaborations with artists from different generations. Throughout his career Buren has created artworks that complicate the relationship between art and the structures that frame it. Daniel Buren, as his biographies mention, lives and works in situ, and his work has a strong relationship with the space in which it is presented. All of Buren's interventions are 'paintings' that appropriate and colour the space. They are critical tools addressing questions of how we look and perceive, and the way space can be used, appropriated, and revealed in its social and physical nature. In his work life finds its way into art, while autonomous art is able to reconnect with life.
As you can see his work is all about installation light and colour. After he has installed his work he will film it in the gallery sometimes as he is installing it he will film it. Hope it helps get the creative juices flowing for the digital outcome.....
hey guys, I found this image in the latest issue of wallpaper. I found it quite interesting and it reminds me of my pixilated inkblots. Thought it might be of interest for someone else???
I am designing my pattern based on images and photos I have taken and collated together so that my pattern is developed purely from Manchester. I created a few designs to fit into the window design, however when I created installations I was unsure on the colour and felt as if it didn't fit into the new art school.
I liked my glass designs in black and white and feel that they would fit into the art school better than colour. i will have to experiement with my colour pallets much more to make the designs work.
MMU Journals are a great way to be inspired and keep up to date with the latest trends and designers, its worth a visit one afternoon if your looking for inspiration and beats sitting in your room on your laptop. These images really stood out for me. I furthered my research online and found a video tour for around the house.
From our tutorials it seems we are all interested in light and space, just thought it would be good for some inspiration for everyone. make sure you watch the video below :) its a tour around the house and the architects that designed it are worth a look at.
Located in Tokyo, Japan, this modern minimalist house was designed by Sou Fujimoto Architects. The house is situated in 914sf project area and was built in 592sf site area. This multi-level house are designed with steel frame construction, and as you can see, the whole walls are made of glass. The glass walls give a transparent effect to the rest room of the house, for that, the curtains add to the special rooms that need more privacy.
I know last term we covered colour and had a session on how to mix colours. Ive just been reading this months copy of HOUSE BEAUTIFUL and inside it has this handy colour guide if anyone is struggling with a colour pallet within these last few weeks.
It's a really lovely magazine and always features new and upcoming textile designers for interiors.
I am considering pieces that involve glass and transparent materials to convey
the reflective patterns on my book designs. Brass Art used a range of clear
materials such as cellophane and plastic alongside solid ones to create
exaggerated effects with light
In Still Life No.1, tiny 3D figurines are
arranged on a table which represent the artists themselves alongside museum specimens,
realistically rendered using the latest digital techniques. A travelling light
source casts a spinning procession of shadows around the walls and ceilings, with
the varying opacities and forms producing unusual silhouettes and glimmers. It
is interesting how small harmless objects are transformed into looming figures
and monstrous forms through a simple process.

On Monday a group of us were randomly selected to go into the new build, it was a really exciting experience, so I thought I'd share it with the group.
Here are a few photographs I took, it can possibly help us think about what we want to design and where it would fit into the new build.
There is a lot of glass and open space in the building, the colours are going to be predominantly white, grey and black.
I was particularly drawn to these two lanterns at the top of the building which let a lot of light in. The building is very open and has been designed so that light will come through all the way to the ground floor.
A view of the courtyard, we could create proposals for outdoor spaces.
The rooftop Terrace, another outdoor space at the top of the building.
Lots of exciting ideas to think about, perhaps a bit confusing but there is definitely a need for something exciting to be made.
If you want some inspiration wether its fabric, furnishings or interiors. Look at Libertys London website. I have been to the shop a few times in London its really inspirational and there was a tv programme about it on BBC. They look for individual one off designers that perhaps arent usually famous.
They also have their own tv chanel.
This information is on my blog in a little more detail, but thought it would be good for everyone. Her work is really inspiring and she uses light and space in such inspirational ways. her work is for larger more commerical buildings.

I have been trying to add colour into my work and lots of my images of the northern quarter were quite dull. I didn't particularly want to any of my photos use for my colour pallet so I chose a photo I took within the cube gallery. Although the photo was looked predominantly black and white, there are hints of so many more colours in the image which is what I liked about the photo.
I went back into the northern quarter as I wanted a variety. although my images consisted mainly of 2 colours, I found tints of other colours that I could pull from the image and developed another colour pallete.
I didnt add proportions for this as I prefered the colours to my other colour wrap and intend to use it for part of my design.
I took a trip to the Fletcher Moss Garden in Disbury. It is such a peaceful place you wouldn't know existed. I have included a few photographs from my visit which I plan to work with.
If your interested in gardens it's quite a nice place to visit, very peaceful and inspirational.
I discovered Timorous Beasties last year whilst on my foundation but have found that I have come back to them time and time again for inspiration. Taking inspiration mainly from the natural world, they create amazing unique and modern designs sometimes however harking back to classic print designs such as their well known 'Glasgow Toile'.
Most of their designs have a hand drawn quality to them that I love and even though some finished products are digitally printed, they still use the 'hand made', screen printed method which I think sets them apart from many other design houses.
In June 2011 they embarked upon a project to create window coverings for the inside of Stratford Market station in East London to provide privacy in parts of the building. They used their 'Tree Of Life' design on clear vinyl for the finished product.
This could be an area of further investigation for my work as the new build houses a lot of glass and this is a contemporary and fun way of giving privacy to areas in and around buildings.
Film has become increasingly popular with textile designers
and companies who use it to communicate information to a worldwide audience of
clients. Our final work will also be presented in digital format, projected
onto citywide billboards or published online on the unit X website.
Company advertisements
Target's"Dreaming Girl"is a stop-motion animation made from a series of still images,
creating jerky movements which look effective in this fast-paced adventure. It is fun,
colourful and exciting since the images constantly evolve into something new.
“The Pen Story”by Olympusis extremely clever as it follows
a man’s life but also involves a story of the camera itself. The process of producing
actual photographs and reanimating them was very time consuming: 60,000
photographs were taken, 9,600 prints developed and then over 1,800 pictures
shot again.
Further Ideas:
How to make an item– An instructional film with titles and
hand-drawn diagrams explaining the stages of making.
Document the production of artwork – Digital work can still
involve creating actual objects using a camera to record the process of making,
the speed of which can be increased or decreased in the film.
Fine art films
These are unusual and conceptual pieces compared to company advertisements,
which are more entertaining and commercial.

"You Be Mother", Film Still, 1990
Sarah Pucill projects photographs onto physical objects,
which are moved around to change the image. “You Be Mother” involved projecting a still portrait
projected onto a crockery set, the components of which are repositioned and
combined to dislocate the facial features and portray a powerful narrative
about relationships.
Michaella Nettell’s film “Under Skies” uses mirrors, glass
and projections onto a rippling water surface to create reflections and blurred,
distorted imagery with a surreal feeling.
Sound is important as the type of music affects the mood. Consider
whether the film should be silent or include music and sound effects.
I am looking at the idea of 'Secret Manchester', and my arrivals task was based on the northern quarter, as for me it is a memorable place and somewhere that I feel reflects creativity and individuality, I started photographing the buildings in the area that showed an element of secrecy but was unsure where to go next, but after my visit to the cube gallery and the exhibition on the hidden proposed underground and assistance in a drawing workshop, I photocopied them onto acetate along with my drawings, and I found the photographs looked completley different to how they were in real life, on the computer and on acetate. I played around with the photcopier blurring images and overlapping them to create patterns which gave me my idea.
Although this does not look too interesting, I intend to cut parts out and fold others to create a pattern on the projector and project it onto the wall so I can develop a large pattern from this
Hey all, just created this post simply so we can create lots of labels as you can only create labels if you are using them in a post.
I thought it would be good to create categories as Sally suggested. I'm going to try and think of some, but any suggestions and changes welcome, and we can add as we go along too! ? Let me know what you guys think of these.
If people don't know how to create labels there are help sections on blogger.
AFTER PRODUCING OUR HOME VIDEO I REMEMBERED THIS ADVERT FROM SONY. I FIND IT REALLY INSPIRATIONAL. HOPE YOU GUYS CAN GET SOMETHING FROM IT TOO.
THE DOORS PIECE REALLY IS SIMILAR USING AN URBAN SETTING TO CREATE ART/DESIGN.
